Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) are delighted to confirm their 2025/2026 partnership with the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) and their four affiliated regional charities based in Scotland - Blood Bikes Scotland (BBS), Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes, Highlands and Islands Blood Bikes and North East Rider Volunteers Scotland.
The four groups operating across the country were established to provide a free-of-charge, professional, rapid-response, medical transport service for NHS Scotland. The purpose of these charities is defined in NABB's constitution as “the advancement of health and the saving of lives”. They deliver blood, blood products, specimens, medications including controlled drugs, documents, and smaller pieces of medical equipment between NHS sites, patients’ homes, and care facilities North of the Border.
By delivering a professional high-quality service free of charge, they provide the NHS with significant cost savings (several Million £ since their origination) and deliver a service to patients and their families at their time of need.
To allow them to continue to meet the needs of patients, and the NHS, they are constantly raising funds for the purchase and running of several fleets of high vis motorcycles and cars. As a 100% volunteer-based charity all funds raised are used to deliver the service 365 days a year, in all weathers and road conditions. For this reason, CPS are delighted to lend their support to their fundraising efforts as the synergy between the organisations is strong and local Pharmacy needs are frequently met by the various Blood Bike organisations as part of their efforts to help support a wide variety of NHS patient needs.
